While Hotel Splendid in Ouagadougou has been freed, a second hotel is still under terrorist attack.

These attacks testify to the fact that the geographic reach of terrorist groups is growing. Initially most of the terrorist activities were confined in the Northern Mali area, in September we documented that terrorist groups had started forging alliances and had devoled thee ability to strike in other parts of Mali (http://www.africanpoliticsandpolicy.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/APP_Newsletter_Sixth_issue.pdf).

The attacks in Burkina Faso show that now terrorist groups are able to launch their attacks beyong the Malian border and that the whole Western African region may be exposed to a greater threat of violence, terror and instability.
