“A senior Chinese Communist Party leader recently told ISS Today that Africa was in a multi-party trap. In this vein, China has much to offer Africa, he argued, saying Africans need single-party systems that can dispense with the messy nature of individual rights and democracy to focus on the upliftment needs of the larger community.”

The views of the Chinese Community Party Official are neither agreable (Africa’s single party systems have failed in some cases, see Zimbabwe) nor original (Huntington said it in 1968).

So while it is great to see some many great minds dispensing their wisdom and insight as to what Africa needs, APP sticks to the view that Africa needs more democracy, more freedom, and better leaders–because its problems do not stem from the number of parties but from the way political leaders behave and mobilize their supporters
