Sugar in East Africa

Sugar production declined in Kenya, which is planning to privatize its sugar firms

Tanzania is planning to to grow more sugar cane as the country experienced a sizeable sugar deficit

In contrast to Kenya, that has a sugar deficit of 543000 tonnes, Rwanda (with asugar deficit of about 70000 tonnes) and Tanzania, which has a sugar deficit of between 135000 and 200000 tonnes, Uganda had a surplus of about 100000 tonnes.
