The authorities of Lagos State in collaboration with the Federal Government decided to re-design and modernize the National Museum at Onikan, Lagos, which was found in 1957 by the English archaeologist, Kenneth Murray, and has very rich collection of Nigerian art and archaeological and ethnographic artefacts.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, during the meeting with the governor Akinwunmi Ambode noted, that this modernization is aimed to make the museum an international tourist center as a part of the program of developing infrastructure and improving security to boost tourism in the state, and also as a part of the program to prepare Lagos State to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year.
Also within these two programs, the National Arts Theatre in Iganmu and the National Stadium in Surulere will be modernized.
